Ongar Business Centre officially announced its rebrand at Brentwood Business Showcase on Thursday 1st November 2018.

Formerly known as the Essex Technology and Innovation Centre (ETIC), the Ongar Business Centre (OBC) sponsored the event at Brentwood School, featuring more than 60 exhibitors with 500 attendees during the day.

A thriving business centre in Essex

The OBC, based on Fyfield Road beside the Ongar Leisure Centre, has long been home to flourishing entrepreneurs and SMEs – many of whom have either grown within the Centre or moved to larger premises on the back of a productive tenancy in Ongar.

As well as start-ups, more established businesses have moved from London to Ongar in order to take advantage of the considerably cheaper rental rates yet ensuring they remain close to the Capital – not to discount the ever-expanding transport links in Essex itself through air, sea, rail and a good network of motorways within easy reach of the Centre.

Close to other key business hubs within the county – Chelmsford, Brentwood and Harlow – offices at OBC range in size from 151 sq ft. to 845 sq ft.

Invest ESSEX, the business support agency and inward investment company now manage the Centre and Invest ESSEX Location Services Director, David Rooke, believes OBC is set for an exciting new era as the county’s business landscape grows as a whole.

“Since taking over the management of the Centre in June of last year we have looked closely at what companies need in terms of their workspace and the environment that supports them. Rebranding to Ongar Business Centre combined with a supportive marketing campaign reflected feedback from local business owners and raising awareness of the Centre both in Ongar and the surrounding area in response to the loss of significant amounts of office space, particularly in and around Brentwood and Chelmsford.”

Successful SMEs based at Ongar Business Centre

Technology consultants Maxxpal is one of numerous examples of businesses to have made the most of being part of OBC. Not only have they been able to bounce ideas off fellow tenants but they have also taken advantage of free professional services provided by Invest ESSEX.

Maxxpal Operations Manager Jennifer Kirrane believes their co-working existence in Ongar has played a major role in the company’s development:

Being at the Ongar Business Centre has allowed us to put down our roots for our growing business. The support we receive from Invest ESSEX is invaluable and is helping us grow our business. We have recently moved to a bigger office in the centre, it was such a smooth transition thanks to the centre manager.

Although Maxxpal is one of 26 businesses (plus 10 virtual tenants) currently residing at OBC, there are further spaces available to join a flourishing community.

“We provide a friendly and supportive workspace environment for new start business through to a number that are well matured, who have grown in the Centre. Many companies started life in the Centre, outgrew the space we have and have gone on to be highly successful in their own right, which is exactly what we are seeking for them to achieve and very much supports the Essex economy.”

Easy in and out licenses at OBC

Monthly charges cover rent, lighting, heating, kitchen facilities and the workspaces also come with free on-site parking and have easy in and out licences, meaning there is no long-term commitment required.

The free parking provision now comes with Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, supplied by Essex company Hangar 19 – another business assisted by Invest ESSEX – through its Hubeleon software programme.

The unit installed by Hangar 19 provides tenants with charging facilities which are 50% faster than had been previously available.
